Lockdown

Unfortunately, we have had to lockdown like everyone else. However The Open Kitchen has continued to prepare meals on a Monday for distribution and have been delivering them, although no meals have been served on the premises. In addition FoodHall has come in on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and also prepared meals for more general distribution to those in need. Altogether they have prepared up to a thousand meals in a week, a huge effort and achievement!

We will shortly have discussions about how we will allow other access to all users, but will follow national guidelines provided by the Government and the national URC. We will also discuss what type of services we will be able to provide for our own members given the age profile. Life will be different.

  1. Here we are in lockdown again. All our services have been suspended, probably until the New Year. We regularly have a service under Music and Recordings each week, prepared by our organist, Douglas Jones. It is full of lively hymns with choral accompaniments and stirring intro and conclusion with lovely organ pieces. The preacher, who would have spoken at our service, provides a “sermon”, the text being given on site. In fact, Douglas has been experimenting with a computer generated voice, which increasingly resembles the real thing. Do enjoy this weekly treat. An alternative/additional experience is to tune in to the Sheffield Team Service, created on Zoom by the Sheffield URC Team, covering 9 churches. This week there were 119 involved, as the members approved an additional Minister to the Team. We welcome Rev. Barry Welch.
