Third Sunday in Lent

Service Date:
4 March, 2018

Worship was led by The Revd. Robert Beard who instead of preaching a sermon, led the congregation to consdier and discuss the meaning and significance of the Temple. Firstly, the significance of our bodies as the Temple of the spirit; secondly the significance of the Temple to the Jews - it was the place where God was present, and it housed the Ark of the Covenant which in turn held the tablets on which were written the Commandments; thirdly, Jesus as a temple, destroyed and rebuilt after 3 days. The idea of a physical Temple is restricting - the whole world is a Temple where God is present. We considered who Jesus loved, whom we love and whom we should love. As members of the Church and body of Christ, God is within us. But - what kind of Temple is the world - how does it reveal God's presence when people die of cold on our streets and small children are forced to walk miles to escape war and persecution?
