Quilting Remembrance

URCs in Sheffield are being encouraged to contribute to commemorations of the First World War:

Gwen Smithies (a retired Church-Related Community Worker or CRCW) and Lisa Wigfield (a CRCW student) are working with churches across Sheffield to commemorate the First World War. Along with quilting and sewing projects some people are looking at family and social history all of which will be a part of the exhibition during 2015.

Acts of Remembrance

At this year's Remembrance Sunday service (Sunday 9th November, 10:45am) we will remember our own relatives who served in WW1. If you would like a relative included please speak to Derek Collins. 

The Church will also be open for prayer on Armistice Day (Tuesday 11th November) with music from the Community Choir (10:30-11), a brief act of worship including the 11am silence, followed by time for quiet reflection (until 2pm).

Church Meeting: Future of Ministry

A special Church Meeting has been called for 24 August in order to discuss the proposal put forward by the Task Group that has been examining the question of future ministry for Sheffield's 15 United Reformed Churches.*  The meeting will be held in the church hall directly after morning worship.

Members are asked to let the Elders know their views and strongly encouraged to attend.

News from the Task Group

The Sheffield URC Task Group have circulated their latest bulletin.  It includes news of their recommendations and notice of two further WW1 anniversary-related events.

Marking the 1WW Centenary

Sheffield's URCs are coming together to mark the centenary of the First World War.  There are two forthcoming events, both in June:

Firstly, an information sharing and hands-on creative postcard stitching workshop. This will be at Wadsley URC on Tuesday 17th June 2014, 10.30 am to 12.30. This is a chance to learn how to create and use opportunities for sharing stories and skills in your church community.  More information here.

May News from Sheffield URC Task Group

The May Newsletter is now available to read.  The Task Group have identified four 'dead ends' for Sheffield's churches, and begun mapping out the alternatives.  A further working group is being established.

There's also a reflection on Nehemiah, and news of some upcoming events.
